I was finishing my research on my book describing the ancient legends of the Huajatolla (Breasts of the Earth in Comanche) in south-central Colorado. According to a Huichol Medicine person and educator, Shiprock was a part of the Huajatolla story…. He (and he was taught by Huichol, Aztec and Mayan Elders) told me that floating down from high above the warriors of the sky came, “on the great winged ShipRock, which remains their home to this day.” They were said to have come in order to assist the struggling people of the Huajatolla – These Sky Warriors taught The People how to run with the deer and survive.
I am aware, (and so I ask that you too be aware) that there are many views to the center of a circle, meaning – this is one translation… but I hope it sheds some light and meaning on this enigmatic and powerful place in the world.
