Some people may find it useful but they would have to have the money to spend as well. However, if you are interested in being prepared this site may help but I would have to stress….. the only thing that will save you is yourself and knowledge. I agree, about the cost on purchasing a “kit”, it would be a lot cheaper to find these items, or what you would consider to be good items to have on hand for whatever purpose on your own, over time maybe gathering what you need, from garage sales maybe. However, this site has many good assortments of seeds at a good price with a good shelf life as well. I also intend to purchase a few seed containers. -Joss
Miriam’s reply: I agree with Joss. Many great things can be found at garage sales however new is sometimes the only way to go if you are making a purchase. As for the SEED containters I di not get that far in the site. I will have to go back and take a look.
I found a recycle centre where I live and picked up some baby food jars that I will be using to store my seeds. Love Miriam

A friend of mine has found lots of plant containers in dumpsters behind big garden centers, especially home depot. Sometimes the plants are still alive and can be nurtured back to health! Also, garden clubs and community gardens are full of people who freely give seeds, divisions of plants and often excellent advice as well. Ask grocery stores and big box stores for expired seed packets. I just planted an entire packet of expired peas and every one of them germinated! Seeds out of winter squash can be dried, planted the following spring and harvested as summer squash too. You can plant the chopped off root ends of onions and they will often turn into an onion plant which can then be allowed to go to seed for a whole crop of onions & green onions the following spring.
